Letters to Emma: What Smells?

posted in Letters to Emma, Viewed: 1371 times

By the time you were 6-weeks old, you were taking formula primarily. This is more information than you probably need to know, but formula fed babies have a different type of bowel movement than breastfed babies. When you were breastfed, your poop hardly smelled. But once you were on formula, boy did things change!

Unfortunately for your dad, you usually pooped on his watch. :-)

And I had to hear about it every single time. After the 3rd time, I usually just died of laughter.

Your poop was thick and green and was all over the place…and it smelled like something died. Your dad (Mr. Clean) was completey traumatized every time he had to change these diapers! He’d go on and on very passionately about how bad it smelled and that this couldn’t be normal. He’d be very upset! He’d insist you needed a special perfume for your bottom so it wouldn’t stink so bad and then he’d run to the bathroom with you to give you a good scrubbing. And then he’d sanitize anything your bottom had touched. He’d practically be as green as the contents of your diaper!

He’d have me research what the normal smell should be as if someone is going to say that we should expect something that smells rancid with a warning that someone might passout if they breathed too deeply. I did in fact find someone who used a WWII gas mask to change their baby’s diaper. Perhaps I should have gotten your dad a gas mask as well. :-)
